The Sidwell Summer Basketball Camp is designed to meet the needs of campers of every skill level. The program is located in the state of the art Athletic Center on the DC Campus. In the mornings, the program concentrates on individualized instruction in passing, shooting, dribbling, and moving without the ball as well as development of offensive moves and defensive techniques. After lunch, campers have free time in the gym to practice and play. Once the afternoon program resumes, campers are divided into age-appropriate scrimmage games and daily team competitions. In addition to our seasoned coaches, our staff includes both male and female college and high school basketball players.

Adding a PM Camp

Sidwell Summer has a number of afternoon options that can be paired with morning programs to create a full day of camp fun for your child! After a morning program, campers will eat lunch and be escorted by staff to the afternoon option you select.

PM Camp options are listed below:

Lego Engineering – (Grades 2-5) Campers dive into massive collections of LEGO® to build elaborate objects, structures and vehicles. Campers explore the fundamental principles of engineering and physics while learning to collaborate and create without fear of mistakes. With Play-Well TEKnologies, your camper will grow and learn through exploration and imagination!

Handwork Day Camp - (Grades K-6) The Handwork Day Camp option includes fun sewing, knitting and crafting projects lead by the experienced Handwork Studio staff. New projects will be introduced each week!

S’More Fun - (Grades K-5) S’More Fun is just as it sounds – an afternoon of S’more Fun after a structured morning program. The S’more Fun option includes LEGOS, Board Games, Art & Crafts and more!

Note: After selecting AM programs during registration, you will then be directed to choose from the above PM Camp options.

What To Bring

Please label all items with camper’s first and last name.

  • Snack
  • Water Bottle (Campers can refill water bottles in the gym)
  • Bagged lunch for full day campers (Monday-Thursday)
  • Wear comfortable and appropriate clothes and basketball shoes or tennis shoes with a light colored sole.

Full day campers will not need a lunch on Friday.  Full Day Basketball campers will have pizza and Italian Ice every Friday at no cost to the campers.

*In an effort to build the kind of community that is so integral to a memorable camp experience, we ask that cell phones, music players, e-readers, and personal gaming systems be left at home.

Drop Off/ Pick Up

Drop Off: 8:45 AM – 9:00AM

AM Only Pick Up: 12:00 PM – 12:15 PM

Full Day Pick Up: 3:00 PM – 3:30 PM

Please review the procedures below and let us know of any questions. We realize the process can seem overwhelming, but our families become pros after a few days and the flow of traffic works well.

Drop Off

Drop off for campers is between 8:45 AM – 9:00 AM in the parking garage located at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Rodman Street. To drop off please pull into the furthest entrance, and staff will be in the parking garage to help open doors and walk campers to their program meeting area.

If you prefer to walk your child to the program meeting area, please pull into the middle entrance of the parking garage and park in any available parking space. The program meeting area for Basketball Camp is in the Athletic Center.

Late Drop Off

Campers arriving after 9:15 AM must be brought to the Sidwell Summer office (located next to the Fox Den) to be checked in. Sidwell Summer staff will then walk your camper to their program.

Pick Up

Early Pick Up

Please notify  the Sidwell Summer Office by calling 202-537-8133 or emailing if you plan to pick up your child early from a camp program. Campers should be picked up directly from the Sidwell Summer Office and a parent or designated adult must check out with the camp staff before leaving campus in order to ensure the safety of all campers. Campers will not be permitted to wait alone or in the front of the school or in other pick up locations.

*Note: For early pick up, please arrive before 2:00 PM. We cannot accommodate early pick ups after 2:00 PM due to carpool and scheduling constraints.* Campers will not be allowed to leave camp on their own without written authorization from parents. Please email to authorize campers to use public transit or walk home.

Pick Up/Carpool


Pick Up for AM Only campers is in the parking garage at 12:00 PM.

Pick Up location for Full Day Basketball is on 37th Street (in front of Sidwell Friends Middle School and Athletics Center) between 3:00 PM – 3:30 PM. There is a 30-minute window allotted for pick up to help spread out traffic so please feel free to utilize this pick up window. Staff will walk participants to their cars as they arrive. Campers will not be allowed to leave camp on their own without written authorization from parents. Please email to authorize campers to use public transit or walk home.

Late Pick Up Policy at the End of the Camp Day

At 3:30 PM, any campers remaining on 37th street are considered late pick ups. Campers are taken to the Sidwell Summer Office until a parent or designated person picks up the camper(s).

Late Pick Up Fees:  Our staff’s time is valuable to us as is the time of our families. Therefore, late pick-up fees are incurred beginning at 3:30 PM. Payment is due at the time of pick up – no exceptions. Payments can be made by cash, check or credit card in the office. If a camper is picked up within 15 minutes of the designated pick-up time, it is a flat fee of $15.00. Campers picked up between 3:45 PM – 4:00 PM from the camp office are charged a fee of $50.00. Campers picked up after 4:00 PM are charged $75.00. Please note charges are per camper and will apply to each child.

Note – Campers are not taken to the Camp ‘til Six program. This program is for pre-registered campers only. Campers will be in the summer office for pick-up.  Serious infractions, either based on frequency of late pick-ups or duration of any single pick up, may result in dismissal from camp program.

Forms & Health Information

All mandatory medical information is captured through the online application. However, if your child has medication to be distributed while at camp, you would like the nurse to administer over the counter medications to your child during the camp day, or your child has allergies or asthma, please click here to access the necessary forms.
