New for 2018, Sidwell Summer will partner with Fleming Tech Camps, a 21st century S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) summer camp program that focuses on giving kids the tools they need to lead successful lives in the digital age. Fleming Tech Camps are designed to provide kids with hands-on experiences with computers, robots, and other cool tech that encourages an interest in science, technology, computing, and engineering.

Each week of camp features a unique and specialized, technology topic, led by an instructor with expertise in technology and teaching. During camp, the instructor guides campers through a week-long journey where campers are learning, discovering, creating, and playing with cutting edge tech!

Make your robot come to life, as you learn how to program it to perform project-oriented tasks and challenges. This camp is designed for campers who have a keen interest in robots. No prior experience with LEGO® WeDo necessary. All skill levels welcome.

Minecraft 4 Kids: Experience the wonderful world of Pocket Edition Minecraft. This fun and engaging camp will spark interests, foster creativity and help you maximize your learning potential. No prior experience with Minecraft necessary. All skill levels welcome.

Minecraft Missions: Are you up for an adventure? In this multi-player environment, Minecraft will be the vehicle to help develop your leadership and social skills, as you accomplish unique missions with a team of campers. Use your imagination and collaborate with your team to design and build a large-scale Minecraft Missions project. Each summer Minecraft Missions changes it’s missions and in 2018 expect the most exciting missions yet. Creativity, critical thinking and communication will be your keys to success! Previous experience with Minecraft is recommended.

Roller Coasters and Game Design: Campers work with instructors to learn two topics this week. During one half of the day, campers will learn basic engineering skills about roller coasters and use K’Nex to build models that demonstrate how roller coasters work. The other half of the day, the campers will learn the basics of video game design and design games by hand with Bloxels and tablets.

Star Wars Adventures – An Intro to Engineering: Take your passion for LEGOs and your imagination to the next level, as you work with a team to build the ultimate sci-fi masterpiece! Imagine the possibilities when you and fellow “padawans” embark on a secret mission to become intergalactic master builders. In addition to building amazing sci-fi inspired LEGO® starships, machines and vehicles you’ll also explore introductory engineering concepts with LEGO’s Simple and Powered Machines engineering kits.

Web Design 4 Kids: Web Design 4 Kids focuses on graphic design and teaching campers how to build a super cool website. Campers will learn the basics of web development with “drag and drop” software and will use WSIWYG design tools to build their websites.
