Dean Adventure Camp is excited to present Camp Broadway, MyWay to enable musical theater-loving campers to learn the fundamentals of theater production through an immersive two-week program that culminates in a showcase performance. Over 40 hours of expert instruction, campers dive into vocal technique, choreography, and performance while collaborating as a true ensemble to bring songs and scenes from iconic Broadway shows to life. Throughout the week, campers will work in age-based groups (grades 2-4 and 5-8) on various aspect of the show and then come together to bring the show to life, with guidance from theater professionals and a special masterclass led by a guest artist.
This isn't just about learning lines and songs, campers become active creators in every aspect of their show. They design and create costume pieces, build set elements through woodworking and craft, and explore special effects makeup techniques. Each group engages in developmentally appropriate hands-on activities that bring their creative vision from concept to stage. Campers can choose to perform onstage or take on essential backstage production roles; both paths are equally valued in bringing the show to life. The experience culminates in a 30-minute showcase performance where families, friends, and campers see the magic of what campers have built together.
No prior acting, singing, or dancing experience is required to participate in our programs. Due to the ensemble nature of the program, both beginners and experienced campers will be nurtured and challenged.

August 3-14: Seussical - Camp Broadway Edition (Mandatory attendance August 14)
Skills Learned Each two-week session immerses campers in the collaborative art of musical theater, developing both performance and production skills:
Performance Foundations: Vocal technique, stage movement/choreography, blocking, harmony, and character development through ensemble building and professional instruction
Creative Production: Costume design and construction through design and sewing, set design and building using woodworking and arts & crafts, and special effects makeup application
Theater Collaboration: Script analysis, rehearsal discipline, and working as an ensemble to stage a complete theatrical production
As campers rehearse and create, they also strengthen essential character skills rooted in theater education research:
Empathy and Perspective-Taking: Developing characters and understanding different viewpoints through performance
Confidence and Self-Esteem: Building stage presence and taking pride in contributing to a professional-quality production
Collaboration and Ensemble Thinking: Understanding that theater succeeds when every role—onstage and behind the scenes—works together seamlessly
Resilience and Problem-Solving: Navigating creative challenges, adjusting to feedback, and discovering that preparation and teamwork lead to powerful performances
General Daily Schedule:
Morning introduction and vocal warm-ups
Activity period - approximately 1 hour (rotating through vocal, movement/choreography, and production workshops)
Snack and stretch break - approximately 15 minutes, outside weather permitting
Activity period - approximately 1 hour
Lunch and recess break - approximately 1 hour, outside weather permitting
Activity period - approximately 2 hours (rehearsal, production work, or masterclass; includes stretch breaks as needed)
Clean up, pack up, dismissal
*2:00 PM Friday of the second week: 30-minute showcase
