Themes + Weekly Overview

Costume Design (Grades 4-10)

Picture it: the star of the show enters stage right wearing a gown. It’s a wide-hooped silken affair—the audience gasps in awe. Enchantment awaits as campers learn the techniques that will give their characters tone, personality, time, and place—all brought to life through costuming. Each week, campers will be challenged to choose and interpret one character from a proposed play for which they'll design and sew a wearable ensemble. Campers will leave with a strong foundation for working in theatrical costume design that brilliantly captures written prose.

Skills Learned:

Techniques such as safely operating and troubleshooting on a sewing machine, basics of hand sewing, how to read sewing patterns, how to choose a fabric, how to take measurements, draping, fashion sketching, earning the elements of design, altering and constructing garments from a pattern and proper finishing methods. Fine motor skills include threading needles, making knots, seam ripping, pinning and proper scissor usage. Design processes such as conceptualizing, experimenting, constructing, and evaluating.

Fashion Bootcamp (Grades 6-11) *2-week session

Calling all fashionistas! Does your child dream of being the next great fashion designer or just want to have creative ownership of their style? Indulge their passion for fashion through Fashion Bootcamp, where they’ll learn how to design, create, and produce their own clothing line. This will teach fashion sketching, how to choose and work with a variety of fabrics and materials to get the right look, proper and safe use of a sewing machine and how to construct their designs. Throughout the weeks, campers will explore clothing development, design their own collection and, of course, create a runway show as a finale. Many campers benefit from taking our Fashion & Machine Sewing program prior, but no experience is necessary to strut right in.
